In a high-voltage converter having thyristors with R-C circuitry in series, and electronics assemblies (7, 8) allocated to the thyristors for generating triggering pulses for the thyristors using energy extracted from the R-C circuitry, and having high-voltage break-over diodes (16) in emergency triggering circuits for the thyristors, a switching element is provided which completely or partially bridges over the high-voltage break-over diodes (16) after a number of successive emergency triggerings.
