The invention relates to a drive device for operating a commercially available dosing pump to dose water treatment chemicals, and to a proportioning member, preferably for the stochiometric provision of solvent water for regenerants for a water softening system. It is the object of the invention to operate a dosing pump by means of only one water meter, preferably integrated in the valve body of a central control valve, and furthermore to control a water softening system in terms of quantity. In order for the devices not to interfere, two mutually separated contacts are required. This object is achieved according to the invention when in the case of the use of a commercially available water meter insert (1) a ring containing three magnets (2) is mounted instead of the 1 litre pointer and operates the reed contact (3) for the dosing pump, while the other ring having only one magnet replaces a further pointer and transmits pulses for controlling the water softening system in terms of quantity. The advantages achieved by means of the invention consist in particular in that it is possible by means of only one mass-produced water meter insert located outside the dedicated pipework of the building to run a water softening system without the disadvantages of time control, and also that there is no need for any further measurement of water quantity in order to generate pulses for a dosing pump.
