Process for the control of discharge gates of casting vessels for metallurgical castings, and device usable for such a process for the exact position indication of a working piston

A process is described for the control of discharge gates of casting vessels for metallurgical castings in dependence on the change in the bath melt level in the casting vessel, the said level being intermittently determined and set, making use of the value of the bath level present at the respective casting instant above the discharge gate, with the melt volume determined from the time integral of the previous respective actual gate openings. The control reference values are compared with at least one bath level boundary value measurement point which directly succeeds the casting stream, and a movement of the discharge gate is initiated on exceeding the boundary value measurement points. According to the invention, in a continuous casting plant with a casting ladle, intermediate casting ladle and continuous casting mould, both the movement of the casting ladle gate and also the movement of the intermediate casting ladle gate are respectively controlled stepwise from their own control systems of like construction. For optimum control, a feedback from the bath level of the mould or from the control of the intermediate casting ladle gate is undertaken for the control of the casting ladle gate. IMAGE
