The invention relates to a line protection circuit breaker of narrow construction, having a two-armed switching contact, which is centrally supported, on the end side in front of the extinguishing chamber. The object of the invention is to ensure a high opening speed and a relatively low cost for parts and production. This is achieved according to the invention in that the switching contact has a lever arm on the rear side on which a connecting bracket engages for the locking mechanism, in that the contact force is produced by a rotating spring which is arranged in the rotating bearing of the switching contact, and in that the restoring spring is constructed as a powerful tension spring which engages directly on the lever arm of the switching contact, via the connecting bracket, and, in its direction of action, corresponds to the geometrical alignment of the connecting bracket.
