Soln. for destroying soot in chimneys - contg. potassium acetate and magnesium nitrate, and opt. magnesium acetate

An agent for chemically destroying soot consists of an aq. soln. of K acetate and Mg nitrate, or a mixt. of Mg nitrate and Mg acetate; the atomic ratio of K : Mg is 40-60 : 60-40 (56 : 44). The soln. is used to clean furnace and boiler chimneys and smoke conducts. An aq. soln. is easier to use than a powder, and can be applied more uniformly. There is no explosion danger. The prods. of reaction in the chimney are easily removed.
