Compounds of the formula IMAGE wherein R is hydrogen, sodium, potassium, or certain ester groups; R1 is in the alpha -configuration and is hydrogen or methoxy; R2 and R3 are independently selected from methyl, ethyl, i-propyl, and n-propyl; R4 is hydrogen, sodium, potassium or certain ester groups, and X is hydrogen, IMAGE +TR IMAGE R6 is hydrogen or lower alkyl; R7 is hydrogen, lower alkyl, IMAGE or -(CH2)n-N-(lower alkyl)2; R8 is hydrogen, sodium or potassium; n is an integer from 1 to 4; are disclosed. These compounds are useful as antibacterial agents.
