FOLDING MACHINE CONTAINING FOLDING ROLLS ADJUSTABLE IN SPEED OF ROTATION

PURPOSE:To fold a folded leaf correctly without reference to its width by providing a switching device of gears containing a clutch for adjusting the rotational speed of a pair of folding rolls in accordance with the width of the folded leaf. CONSTITUTION:A gear box 45 for changing the rotational speed of a pair of folding rolls 15 is provided under a table 14 to connect with the pair of folding rolls 15. It is constructed of gears 33, 34, 35, and 36, a clutch 38, a drive shaft 42, and others. The pair of folding rolls 15 are connected with a driven shaft 41 of the gear box 45 via a folding roll gear 27, idle gears 28 and 29, and bevel gears 31 and 32. In case papers 11 and 12 are folded leaves of 1/2 paper width, when the clutch 38 is shifted to the left, the shaft 41 is rotated at a lower speed than the drive shaft 42, and consequently, the pair of folding rolls 15 are rotated at a low speed. In the case of folded leaves of 1/1 paper width, when the clutch 38 is shifted to the right, the pair of folding rolls 15 are rotated at a high speed.
