PURPOSE:To produce easily a composite material having a high volume rate of reinforcing fibers, by heating a composite material piece consisting of a fibrous body and metal to melt the matrix metal and pressurizing the same to bleed a part of the molten metal to the outside of the fibrous body. CONSTITUTION:A composite material consisting of a fibrous body selected from a nonwoven cloth, woven fabric and three-dimensional woven fabric of long fibers, a nonwoven cloth of short fibers or mixtures thereof as a reinforcing material and metal as matrix is produced by a high-pressure casting method. A composite material piece 1 cut out from the composite material is heated to melt at least a part of the matrix metal, then the piece is disposed in the cavity of a die 2 for hot forging and is quickly pressurized by a punch 4. The pressurized state is maintained unitl the molten metal solidifies thoroughly. Then the matrix metal 6 bleeding out from the fibrous body solidifies around the composite material piece 1' which is compressively deformed between the die 2 and the punch 4. The solidified body 7 is removed from the die 2 and only the part 8 of the metal is removed.
