PURPOSE:To freely set the damping force characteristics, arbitrarily adjust the damping force, facilitate the working, and enable to reduce the cost by a structure wherein reeds, which are directed toward the inclination of nozzles and the inclined angle of the reeds is made adjustable, are provided on the inside of a vortex chamber. CONSTITUTION:When a piston 2 raises during the extension stroke, the oil in an upper oil chamber 4 flows tangentially in a vortex chamber 25 through nozzles 17 by being guided by reeds 20, resulting in forming vortex and developing damping force. On the other hand, when the piston 2 lowers during the compression stroke, a part of the oil flows out in the upper oil chamber 4 by pushing a non-return valve 14 open and the remaining part of the oil flows out in the vortex chamber 25 through the nozzles 17 of a base valve part 26 by being guided by the reeds 20, resulting in forming vortex and developing damping force. Furthermore, a relief valve characteristic, which depends upon the amount of flexure, can be utilized by changing the supporting point of the reed by pivoting a pin 23 arranged as an adjusting member.
