Slide valve control mechanism - for casting holes in continuous casting installations

A slide-valve, closing the casting hole in a continuous casting installation, is controlled by a hydraulic jack, through an operating rod. An intermediate connecting piece has an internal thread in one end, mating with the threaded jack piston rod, and located by a lock-nut. The other end fits into a sleeve connected to the operating rod. A U-shaped wedge, passing through a slot in the sleeve engages an annular groove around the connecting piece. It is held in place by a key pressed against it, preferably into a notch, by a lock-nut on an external thread on the connecting piece.
