New selective oxidizing system and its application for the preparation of derivatives of aromatic ortho - dihydroxy or ortho - dialcoxyles

A selective oxidizing system for preparing ortho-dihydroxylated or ortho-dialkoxylated aromatic derivatives comprises metallic copper; a cuprous salt, a cupric salt or mixtures thereof; and molecular oxygen. Oxidation, by means of said selective oxidizing system, of aromatic derivatives comprising at least one phenolic hydroxyl radical, one at least of the ortho positions with respect to this radical being free, followed by hydrolysis and alkylation of the intermediates obtained, leads to the ortho-dihydroxylated or ortho-dialkoxylated aromatic derivatives.
