The reciprocating moistening-water distribution roller is for use in an offset printing press. The length of the distribution roller (1) is only a fraction of the width of the printing plate, and it reciprocates in the axial direction for a distance whose length is more than 10% of the plate width. The roller length can be from 10 to 92% of te plate width, preferably 40 to 60% and it can have a supply roller (2) for the moistening water.
