Fuel compsns. comprise 20-90 vol.% gas oil, 5-60 vol.% methanol and 5-60 vol.% of one or more 1-3C alkyl esters of 6-22C satd. or unsatd. fatty acids. When the esters are derived from 14-22C unsatd. fatty acids (e.g. from colza, soya, cottonseed or palm oil or lard), the compsns. pref. contain 20-90% gas oil, 5-20% MeOH and 5-60% ester. When the esters are derived from 6-14C satd. fatty acids (e.g. from coconut or copra oil), the compsns. pref. contain 25-70% gas oil, 10-50% MeOH and 20-60% esters. The esters improve compatibility between the gas oil and MeOH, provide cetane nos. suitable for diesel engines, and allow satisfactory viscosity levels to be maintained.
