PURPOSE:To produce the amount of water to be used and obtain the titled compound useful as a photographic coupler in high yield, by decomposing a 1H-pyrazolo[3,2-c]-s-triazole-7-carboxylate based compound in the presence of a specific solvent and strong acid. CONSTITUTION:A 1H-pyrazolo[3,2-c]-s-triazole-7-carboxylate based compound is decomposed in the presence of a carboxylic acid having 70-200 deg.C boiling point, e.g., formic acid or acetic acid, as a solvent and a strong acid having =0.25pKa, preferably -3pKa, e.g. H2SO4 or HCl, to give a 1H-pyrazolo[3,2-c]-2-triazole based compound. The compound used as a starting raw material in the above- mentioned method is a compound expressed by the formula (R1 is alkyl, aryl or heterocyclic ring; R2 is alkyl, aryl, etc.; R3 is 1-10C alkyl which may have a substituent group, etc.).
