PURPOSE:To provide the titled improver having excellent wax-dispersibility, consisting of a half amide or half ester of an unsaturated sulfonic acid anhydride adduct of an ethylene/vinyl carboxylate copolymer or its amine salt. CONSTITUTION:An unsaturated carboxylic acid anhydride adduct (A) of an ethylene/vinyl carboxylate copolymer having a number-average MW of 1,000- 10,000 and an ethylene content of 20-85wt% [unsaturated carboxylic acid anhydride/vinyl carboxylate = 0.05-1.0 (molar ratio)] is reacted with a 10-22C prim. or sec. amine or an 8-22C straight-chain aliph. alcohol at 80-40 deg.C in the absence of a catalyst to obtain the titled improver composed of a half amide (amine salt) of component A contg. a residue of a half amide of succinic acid of formula I (wherein R2 is a 10-22C alkyl; R1 is H, R2; X is H, an alkylammonium derived from a 10-22C prim. or sec. alkylamine) or a half ester of component A contg. a residue of a half ester of succinic acid of formula II (wherein R is a 8-22C alkyl).
