Rotary IC engine with grooved cylindrical rotor - has cylindrical housing with valves dividing grooves into induction, compression, expansion and exhaust chambers
Rotary IC engine with grooved cylindrical rotor - has cylindrical housing with valves dividing grooves into induction, compression, expansion and exhaust chambers
A rotary internal combustion engine consists of a cylindrical housing (20) closed at each end by a plate (30) and with inlet and exhaust ports. A cylindrical rotor is journalled in the housing for concentric rotation and has two spaced circumferentially extending grooves. A combustion chamber (50) on the housing is connected periodically with each groove while the rotor rotates. A first valve divides the first groove into an induction chamber and a compression chamber and a second valve divides the second groove into air expansion chamber and an exhaust chamber. The extremities of the grooves subtend an angle of less than 180 deg. at the axis of rotation of the rotor.
