A process for the removal of primary amines from substantially aromatic oils, as recovered by hydrogenation or pyrolysis from coal, oil shale, tar sands, mineral oil fractions and hydrocarbon-rich waste substances, characterized in that the aromatic oil is treated in the temperature range of from 50 to 300 degrees C for 0,5 to 48 hours with an oxidation agent.
