A process for preparing acrylonitrile-based filaments free of agglutination is disclosed, which includes the steps of homo-polymerizing acrylonitrile or copolymerizing acrylonitrile with other vinyl monomers in a concentrated zinc chloride aqueous solution containing 0.01 - 5 % by weight of hydrogen chloride to form a polymeric solution, and then spinning the polymeric solution.
