In an optical scanning apparatus of the type in which the light from a semiconductor laser (10) is deflected by a holoscanner (20), the semiconductor laser (10) is temperature-controlled to stabilize the wavelength of laser beam emitted from the semiconductor laser (10). A characteristic line which represents the relation between the wavelength of laser beam emitted from the semiconductor laser (10) and the temperature of the semiconductor laser (10), does not remain constant but changes with the lapse of time. Two light-receiving elements (34), (36) are provided outside the region that is scanned by the laser beam deflected by the holoscanner (20), to receive the deflected laser beam. The change of characteristic line with the lapse of time is detected relying upon the difference in the time at which these two light-receiving elements (34), (36) produce outputs, and a setpoint temperature for controlling the temperature is changed with the passage of time.
