Egg candling apparatus employs a single, powerful, light source connected by a unit of optical fibres to an array of eggs located in a suitable tray. A sealing glove around the end of each fibre conduit ensures that all the light passes into the egg and that none escapes which would make visual inspection of the eggs more difficult for the operator. Used for the inspection of fertilised eggs to determine the state of embryo development, for use in vaccine culture methods using live embryos, e.g. of flu vaccine.
