An apparatus, for retaining a window sash in a desired open position, comprises at least one retaining unit (C) adapted to be mounted on an outer frame (A), and at least one transforming unit (D) adapted to be mounted within an inner frame (B). The retaining unit (C) includes a tube-like member (11) adapted to be pivotally connected to the outer frame (A), and a rod (12) turnably and telescopically received in the tube-like member (11).
