A gas-static bearing is proposed, which acts both as a radial and as an axial bearing and is protected against the appearance of tumbling motions of the shaft (1) by increased gas pressure at the ends of the bearing gap (18). The bearing bodies (2), (4), (5) adapted in hourglass shape to the bearing shell (3) are made of plastic so that the bearing has good emergency running properties. A turbine (12) driving the shaft can also be supplied with compressed air by the compressed-air supply (13) via a branch line (14). In the event that the gas pressure drops, a non-return valve (15) brings about an interruption in the air supply to the turbine and the use of the residual air for the lubrication of the bearing.
