Use of inorganic crystalline phosphors as labels for macromolecules, such as, for example, antibodies. Although covalent bonding is possible, the macromolecules are preferably adsorbed physically onto the phosphors. The phosphors should preferably have a particle size of between 0.02 and 5 νm, most preferably between 0.1 and 1 νm.
