The invention relates to a superfinishing head for journals, in particular of crankshafts. The aim of the invention is, during the finishing of journals, also to finish their ring grooves, in the case of crankshafts, by means of superfinishing. The object of the invention is to provide a simple way of finishing the crankshaft journals and the ring grooves at the transition to the crank arms in a highly precise and simultaneous manner and to design a finishing head suitable for this purpose. The essence of the invention consists in that the superfinishing head is fixed by its housing to the output shaft of the air vibrator in a guidable manner and is equipped, at the sides, with pivotable arms which are also provided for receiving ring-groove stones. It is advantageous here if the pivotable arms are fixed to a flat spring, the centre of which is secured in the housing of the superfinishing head. Holders for surface stones are fixed to the body of the superfinishing head, sideways on the springs.
