The sales and carrying carton for a number of containers, such as bottles, cans or the like, has viewing windows and carrying grips and a removal opening for the contents of the package. The blank for the carton contains the base (19), the two narrower side walls (11) and the lid (20), lying one after the other, and the adhesive tab which is connected to the lid (20) at the top end of the one narrow side wall (11). Narrow side wall strips (17, 15, 16, 18), which can be opened out into the plane of the larger, broader side walls (13) and are glued to one another in the mutually overlapping region at the corners, are arranged on the outside edges of the base (19), the narrower side walls (11) and the lid (20), a viewing opening (14), which corresponds to about 70% of the width and/or the height of the larger side walls (13), being formed by the edges of the side wall strips. A specially adapted tool is used to form this carton in order to guarantee the fixed connection of the side wall strips glued in the overlapping region.
