A METHOD OF PRODUCING AN AIRTIGHT ANDWATERPROOF SLIDE FASTENERAbstract:A method of producing a slide fastener wherein aseries of fastener elements are secured to each of a pairof fastener tapes along one edge each thereof, each saidfastener tape is formed thereon with a waterproof sealinglayer, and when said series of fastener elements on eachsaid pair of fastener tapes are engaged with each other, theedges of said waterproof sealing layers on each said pair offastener tapes are press-contacted with each other so as toprovide airtightness and waterproofness. The improvementcomprises forming said pair of fastener tapes in one piecewith a thin connecting portion therebetween, securing a pairof said series of fastener elements to one side of said pairof fastener tapes formed in one piece on the edges alongboth sides of said connecting portion so that they face eachother without being engaged with each other, applying aresiliently deformable waterproof sealing layer all over theother side of said pair of fastener tapes formed in onepiece including said connecting portion, then cutting saidpair of fastener tapes formed in one piece away from eachother longitudinally along said connecting portion so thateach cut edge of said waterproof sealing layer projects overa line which will become the center line of engagement ofsaid pair of series of fastener elements when they areengaged with each other. The above method according toto the invention produces an airtight and waterproof slidefastener in a simplified manner without impairing theengaging function of the slide fastener and without render-ing any damage to the fastener elements.
