The mechanism loads an interchangeable superstructure (4), such as a container, (4), from a lorry onto a rail truck (1) and vice-versa, or between truck of different gauges. A lifting mechanism for the superstructure is combined with a precision centring mechanism (24), automatically aligning the superstructure with the longitudinal axis of the truck.
