PURPOSE:To expedite a quantitative analysis by a method wherein crystallochemical data and a peak profile of each mineral subjected to a qualitative analysis beforehand are field in a storage device and a comparison is made on a display with a peak profile obtained from strength data of an unknown sample. CONSTITUTION:A theoretical strength is computed by using the lattice constant, atomic coordinates and an atomic scattering factor of minerals of various kinds and the like, and it is inputted beforehand to a storage device of a microcomputer or the like. Next, based on the results of a qualitative analysis by an X-ray diffraction method, a necessary crystal file is called, a parameter shaped in a peak is determined automatically so that it coincides with a half-width of a measured peak profile, and the peak profile is computed. Then, the parameter of an item DELTAV of a volume is varied so that the computed peak profile and the measured peak profile be coincident on a computer screen, the determined DELTAV is multiplied by the specific gravity of each mineral, and the results of quantification are outputted onto the screen.
