METHOD FOR INCREASING MELTING RATE OF SCRAP

PURPOSE:To make stable smelting operation even in a region where an S/M ratio is high by delivering the molten iron of the same volume as the volume of scrap from a converter and heating up a bath before the next scrap charging at the time of melting the scrap in the converter. CONSTITUTION:The molten iron of the same volume as the volume of the scrap is first delivered from the converter at the time of smelting the scrap in the presence of the residual molten iron in the converter. The bath of the residual molten iron is previously heated up in the standby time zone before the next scrap charging to compensate the deficiency of the quantity of heat of the bath for the volume of the scrap to be charged next. The quantity of heat input is thus increased by the increase of the bath temp., by which the carburization rate of carbon to the scrap is increased and the melting rate is improved.
