ABSTRACTA mixture is disclosed comprisingA) a polymer comprising by weight at least 80% of at least one ofacrylamide or methacrylamide, up to 5% of at least one ofacrylonitrile, methacrylonitrile, vinyl acetate, maleic acid,diisobutAne, or a (meth)acrylic acid ester of a monovalent primaryalcohol with 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and 5 to 20% of at least one ofacrylic acid or methacrylic acid, and at least one of(B) a completely saponified natural resin or(C) a partially saponified natural resin, (A) being present in 3to 50% and (B), (C) or (B) plus (C) being present in 97 to 50% byweight of (A) plus (B), (C) or (B) plus (C).Such mixtures are useful in the production of paper and cardboardin order to reduce the absorbency and improve the dry strength ofthose products.
