PURPOSE:To adsorb hydride-based poisonous gas by the title adsorbent having specified density, specific pore volume and specific surface by forming the adsorbent from the extrusion-molded product contg. copper oxide, a refractory inorg. oxide and the transition-metal compd., as required, as the auxiliary component. CONSTITUTION:The compd. of a transition metal (mercury, silver, vanadium, chromium, manganese, iron, cobalt, nickel, zinc, cadmium, lead, etc., is incorporated, if necessary, as the auxiliary component into a mixture of copper oxide (preferably cupric oxide) and a retractory inorg. oxide (alumina, silica, titania, magnesia, zirconia, silica alumina, zeolite, etc., or preferably gamma-alumina). The hydride-based poisonous gas adsorbent having =1.5g/cc density, 0.2-0.8cc/g specified pore volume, and =60m2/g specific surface is produced from the mixture by the well-known method such as gel kneading, coprecipitation and impregnation. High adsorbing rate and adsorbing capacity are guaranteed by the adsorbent, and hydride-based gas can be efficiently adsorbed and removed.
