PURPOSE:To enhance learning efficiency by preventing a translated word from being displayed even if retrieval is performed at the time of a learning mode, and displaying the translated word by operating an input key. CONSTITUTION:A controller is constituted of a CPU 11, a ROM 14 and a RAM 15, and at the time of a dictionary mode, when a keyword retrieving key is operated after a keyword is inputted, the controller makes a displaying means 2 display the keyword and the translated word corresponding to the keyword, and on the other hand, at the time of the learning mode, when the keyword retrieving key is operated after the keyword is inputted, it makes the displaying means 2 display only the keyword, and only when the input key is operated further, it makes it display the translated word for the keyword. Thus, the translated word can be investigated easily and quickly, and on the other hand, at the time of the learning mode, it can be confirmed whether a user keeps the translated word in his mind or not, and in addition, the uncertain translated word or the translated word not kept in his mind can be confirmed or remembered on the spot.
