21712-197ABSTRACTIn the continuous application of an even coating on astrip of material (5) that passes over a counter roller (6), inparticular paper or cardboard, the coating material is deliveredat very low pressure with the help of an applicator roller (2) andunder the control of a guide plate (8) and into the applicator gap(7) that is formed by the counter roller and the applicatorroller. The coating material is dosed by means of a dosingelement (15), partially de-watered in the vicinity of a layer thatis close to the strip of material so as to form a blockingbarrier, and then finally dosed in a final dosing assembly bymeans of a final dosing element (24) at very low applicationpressure. A three-stage process of this kind, or the apparatuswhich is suitable for carrying out this process, makes it possibleto achieve consistently good coating quality at comparatively highthroughput speeds of the material and at extremely low applicationweights.
