An apparatus for the formation of a shaped food product, uses upper and lower pairs of spiral disc cutters (2a, 2b, 3a, 3b) which are rotatable and are also capable of orbital movement as a unit about the vertical extrusion direction of an extruder (1) producing a column of food material (F) formed of two kinds of food material (F1 and F2). Rotary movement of the cutters (2a, 2b, 3a, 3b) causes a passage for the food material to be opened and closed periodically so that the column of food material is shaped into globules of food material with food material (F1) wrapped around food material (F2).
