In the case of a cooler having a tube package disposed within a housing and formed by superposed flat tubes 21 to 33, at least one intermediate wall is constituted by a flat tube 25, 29 itself, adjacent to which there is on one side a partition 40, 50 extending as far as the inside surface of the housing wall, so that the through-flow space between the intermediate wall and the adjacent partition is sub-divided and so that a meandering flow path is provided for the cooling medium which flows through the housing and along the outside of the tube package, in the interior of which flows the medium which is to be cooled. The flat tubes are constructed as substantially rectangular longitudinal members. The partition may be disposed between two longitudinal walls provided on both sides and which engage over at least a part of the longitudinal sides of the tube package, closing off and sealing a gap between them and the wall of the housing. Thus, any possibility of a bypass flow in this region is avoided. At the same time, a meandering and multi-section flow path is achieved. The cooling efficiency of the cooler is improved. The cooler is simple, favourably priced, relatively light and compact. IMAGE
