The invention relates to a device for displaying the required safety distance in motor vehicles. It is characterised by an electronic unit which, by taking into account the particular, actual driving speed of the motor vehicle and preferably also by taking into account the condition of the carriageway, determines the required safety distance and displays this on the windscreen, in the peripheral field of view of the vehicle driver.
