PURPOSE:To prevent malfunction of a rope slack detecting device during rest at a lowermost floor for a long time by a method wherein at a point of time when a passenger cage is lowered down to a buffer, a plate which brings a rope slack detecting plate into an inoperative state is pressed by the buffer. CONSTITUTION:A rope slack detecting preventing plate 16 is mounted to a buffer support frame 14 by means of a hinge 15 so that, during ordinary running, a rope slack detecting frame 11 is rotated downward around a fulcrum pin 12 under gravity due to the slack of a rope 9, a margin enough for operation of a rope slack detecting switch 13 is provided and a proper distance is ensured. A buffer 10 is mounted below the rope slack detecting preventing plate. By an effect in which the rope slack detecting preventing plate 16 is pushed up in a horizontal state by the buffer 10 against natural subsidence of a passenger cage occurring during rest for a long time, the rope slack detecting frame 11 is prevented from downward rotation, and useless operation of the rope slack detecting switch 13 due to natural subsidence of the passenger cage during rest for a long time is prevented from occurring.
