PURPOSE:To provide possibility of effectively using a multi-spindle machining center without fear of interference of a tool with any work to be machined, by providing a temporary tool retreating means for prevention of tool interference with the work during machining with a tool being clamped on any spindle, and locating this tool retreating means in the neighborhood of the spindle moving path. CONSTITUTION:A multi-spindle machining center 1 makes simultaneous machining of work to be machined with spindles 8, 9 fitted with a plurality of tools. When a tool T mounted on any of the spindles 8 interferes with the work, this tool T in interference is removed from the spindle 8 using a temporary tool retreating means 20 for retreatment to a position without interference. During this time the machining is carried out with tools on the other spindles 9.
