PURPOSE:To secure the optimum car washing operation suitable for the car height by installing a photoelectric switch which is supported in free rising and lowering and a detecting means for detecting the traveling distance of a frame and successively measuring the car height for the car body position, in a device for carrying out car washing by moving a gate-shaped frame in reciprocation. CONSTITUTION:A device which is moved in reciprocation by the revolution of a wheel 2 by an electric motor 4 and carries out the processings such as the washing and drying of a car body in succession is installed on a pair of rails 3 on which a frame 1 which is formed in gate form, overriding the car body is laid on a floor surface, and a dolly 9 is installed in free rising and lowering along guide rails 10 which are erected on both the sides of the frame 1, and raised and lowered by the operation of an electric motor 16 through an endless chain 12. Photoelectric switches 20a, 21a and 20b, 21b consisting of a light projector and light receiving device are insralled on the opposed side surfaces of each dolly 9, and the dolly 9 is raised and lowered along the car body shape according to the outputs of the photoelectric switches. Further, the car height for the car body position is measured from the rising/lowering position and the output of a dolly position detecting means 24.
