The device has circulating conveying device (23) for conveying washing goods carriers in a process flow direction in a horizontal plane. A retaining device (20) includes a holding-down device for holding washing goods on the carriers. The carriers include a carrier base for the washing goods. The holding-down device is position changeably held at a height in the carriers by the dead weight, such that the holding-down device is freely applied on the goods from top by the dead weight and the gravitational force for holding the goods between the holding-down device and the carrier base.
