PURPOSE:To obtain proper buffering operation corresponding to the attitude of a spindle by providing a dashpot type buffer mechanism with a pressure regulating means which regulates the pressure of pressurized liquid by releasing the pressurized liquid to the air side according to the inclination of a spindle. CONSTITUTION:The dashpot type buffer mechanism 31 which using air as a pressurized liquid is provided at the end part opposite to the measuring element 12 of the spindle 11. This buffer mechanism 31 has a cylinder 32 fitted fixedly around a holding cylinder 8 and a pressure chamber 35 is formed in this cylinder 32. A release hole 42 for the communication between a valve chamber 38 and the air side is perforated in a cap body 37. Then the valve chamber 38 and a ball 39 as a valve body constitute the pressure regulating means 44 which releases the pressurized fluid in the pressure chamber 35 to the air side according to the inclination of the spindle 11. Consequently, the spindle is displaced at a proper speed regardless of the attitude of the spindle.
