An apparatus for cleaning printed circuit cards by means of alcohol is described. According to the invention the apparatus has a washing chamber (3) enclosed in a housing and a sluice disposed vertically above said washing chamber and being formed by a drying chamber (2) having an opening (7) closable by means of an outer hatch (8) to enable a basket (6) filled with printed circuit cards to be moved in and out of the drying chamber (2), and an opening (9) closable by means of an inner hatch (10) to enable a basket (6) to be moved down into and up out of the washing chamber containing a tank (14) with alcohol. Furthermore, the apparatus has a vertically displaceable support means (17) carrying a basket (6) in order to transport it between the drying chamber and the washing chamber for immersion of the basket into the alcohol, a pneumatic cylinder (24) being disposed externally on the housing and connected to the support means via a connection element (18) in order to effect the vertical displacement of the support means. An exhaust air channel system (33) is connected to the washing chamber and drying chamber to create a vacuum in the housing (1) for evacuation of the explosive alcohol from the chambers (2, 3). The hatches are controlled by a control means so that only one of the hatches can be opened at a time.
