Sheet material (7) for storage is wound (9) on to a cylindrical former carried in a rotatable turret structure. En route it passes between an input roller (8) engaging anempty former (6') mounted on the turret diametrically opposite to the filling former (9), then over a jockey roller (5). When the former is full, an auxiliary assembly (11) positions two rollers (13,14) so taht the sheet is pushed inwards, thus passing some way around the empty former (6'). A pivoted arm (16) then advancese a sheet wide knife (18) to sever the material whilst anelectrode structure behind imparts a static charge to it, pushing the loose end towards the former where it adheres. Rolling now continues around the empty former whilst, without interruption, the turret is moved through 90 deg. so that the filled unit can be replaced by an empty one. A further movement re-establishes the initial situation.
