The face milling cutter has some fifty inserts clamped in recesses at the circumference of the cutter body and standing proud of the end face. In basic form each insert is a rhombus ground to produce simultaneous cutting on a main cutting edge (15) and an adjoining finishing cutting edge (10). The four usable sets of cutting edges are formed by the intersections of end and side faces, the side faces (9) being ground slightly convex. Because the geometry of the inserts and recesses is easy to produce the cutter can be made to high accuracy. USE/ADVANTAGE - Finishing gasket faces of engine blocks etc. Simple to produce. Combines roughing and finishing in one insert. High feed rate possible with long cutter life and high finish.
