PURPOSE:To provide a novel benzidine derivative having excellent light stability, favorably usable as an electric charge-transfer material and giving photosensitizers having high sensitivity and excellent repeating characteristics. CONSTITUTION:A benzidine derivative of formula I [R1-R6 are H, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, aryl, aralkyl, heterocyclic ring (the groups excluding H and halogen can be substituted with other groups); l-q are 0-2; A1-A3 are H, group of formula II (R7, R6 are R1-R6 except the halogen but are not simultaneously H), but A1-A3 are not simultaneously H, and either one of A1 and R3 is H], e.g. a compound of formula III. A compound of formula V among the compound of formula I is produced e.g. by reacting an aldehyde of formula V with a dialkyl phosphite compound of formula VI in the presence of a basic substance as the catalyst in an organic solvent.
