PURPOSE:To enable controlling a rotation direction in a command direction also at the time of resuming rotation after starting, of course at the time of starting by equipping a detection means of the rotation direction of a rotor, a determination means for determining the rotation direction, a conducting means and a changing means for altering the timing of switching of the conducting direction. CONSTITUTION:In a single-phase synchronous motor M, when a driving circuit 13 is driven by a pulse signal P1, a rotor RT rotates simultaneously with the pulse signal P1. That is, when a rotor magnetic pole exists in the region close to the facing position in the direction CW of forward rotation and is stationary at the time of starting a conduction, a torque is generated to rotate the rotor magnetic pole in the direction CW of forward rotation if power is applied in the forward direction. Then, when the rotor magnetic pole passes the positive paired position and enters a region for the magnetic pole to separate from the paired position, a conducting direction is switched in the opposite direction and a torque is generated to further rotate the rotor RT so that the rotor RT moves by rotation to the section of the next stator- facing magnetic pole. Thus, the rotor RT continues to rotate.
