The invention concerns a granulocyte-inhibiting polypeptide in purified form, which has a molecular weight of 27 to 29 kD, an isoelectric point of 4.0 to 4.5 and the following amino acid sequence (I) on the terminal N: Asp-Ile-Val-Met-Thr-Gln-Ser-Pro-Gly-Thr-Leu-Ser-Pro-Gly-Glu-Arg-Ala-Thr--, a process for producing this polypeptide and a diagnostic process for in vitro detection of immunosuppression in uremic patients whose sera contain this polypeptide.
