A locking mechanism for a tape reel in a magnetic tape cassette prevents accidental disengagement and overlocking trouble, wherein proper engagement and disengagement between a reel-locking lever (7) and the tape reel (3) is attained by arranging the sliding surface of the reel-locking lever (7) at a predetermined position.
