the invention relates to the in vitro culture of cells with viral hepatitis non-a, non-b (nanbh). we isolated and cultured primary hepatocytes from one monkey during the acute phase of experimental infection with the virus nanbh.the differentiated hepatocyte cell culture was maintained in a serum-free medium containing a williams, a prolifu00e9rogu00e8ne of hepatocyte, transferrin, serum albumin, a corticosteroid, prolactin, thyrotropin releasing factor. e, cholera toxin, and ethanolamine.the cultured hepatocytes were positive for the expression of a cytoplasmic antigen associated with nanbh. the presence of cytoplasmic markers suggested that the persistence of the infection in vitro.the production of infectious virus in vitro was confirmed by inoculation of tissue culture infected with the virus nanbh and documenting the development of nanbh in chimpanzees.
