A voltage overload magazine (11) has plastics material housing (13) on a metal ground base (12). Within the housing are chambers (14) for conductors (6), arranged in series. Other chambers (9) are provided for spring clips (3). When voltage surge occurs, current flows through a contact spring (15) to the overload conductor (6). Between the contacts (7, 8) is an arcing path for discharge. If the voltage surge remains for a long period the magazine could be damaged. This is prevented by the chamber with the U-shaped spring elements (3). The high temp. causes melting of the wall between the chambers (9, 14) and the current passes directly to ground through the clip.
